Dr. Johanna BoultDr. Johanna Boult is the holder of the Endowed Professorship in Communicative Disorders.

Boult earned her bachelor in linguistics from the University of Santa Cruz in 1994, her masters in speech-language pathology from Northwestern University in 1996 and her Ph.D. in speech-language pathology from Michigan State University in 2007, where she served as a clinical supervisor and course instructor from 2003-2006.

Boult is an assistant professor of speech-language pathology, as well as serving as the department head and graduate coordinator. She joined the University of Louisiana at Monroe's faculty in January 2007 and has taught several undergraduate and graduate level courses in speech-language pathology and communication disorders.

Her research interests include language development, multicultural issues in speech-language pathology and the relationship between culture and language.

During her tenure as department head, the new Kitty DeGree Speech and Hearing Center opened in Sugar Hall on ULM's campus. Previously located in Brown Hall, the center has provided thousands of hours of services to clients during its 40-year history. The Kitty DeGree Speech and Hearing Center continues to serve individuals with communication deficits in the areas of articulation, language, voice, fluency, swallowing, and hearing.

Boult reorganized curriculum to better align the program with the American Speech- Language Hearing Association's standards, as well as offering a minor in health studies.

Several scholarly journals and books, including "The ASHA Leader," "The American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology" and "Multicultural/Multilingual Courses: A Resource for Instructors," have published Boult's work.

She is also active in several professional and civic organizations, including the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, the Louisiana Speech-Language Hearing Association and Quota International of Monroe.
