Dr. Sushma KrishnamurthyDR. SUSHMA KRISHNAMURTHY is the holder of the Kitty DeGree Professorship in Biology.

Dr. Krishnamurthy earned a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry, Zoology and Environmental Sciences from St. Joseph's College in Bangalore India and a M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Marine, Estuarine and Environmental Sciences. Before coming to ULM, Dr. Krishnamurthy was at Texas A&M International University, Laredo, TX.

Dr. Krishnamurthy's research interests include water and sediment quality and bioremediation of metal contaminated soils. Her scholarly activity includes numerous grants, conference presentations, moderating conference sessions, serving as grant reviewer, serving as invited presenter at both local and state agencies, and publications including co-editor of the book "Water for Texas: Beyond 2000". She served on the board of the Texas Academy of Sciences, most recently as Academic Director.

Dr. Krishnamurthy has received several awards for excellence in teaching and student service. She has been actively involved in the community mentoring and supporting high school teachers and students, science fairs, Boy Scouts and advocating for community quality of life issues.


About the Endowment: 

The Kitty DeGree Professorship in Biology endowment was established to encourage and reward excellence in teaching, learning and research at ULM.
