Ms. Donita PotterMS. DANITA POTTER is the holder of the Sister Anne Marie Twohig Professorship in Nursing.

She began as Instructor in September 2001 in the Department of Specialties and Professional Roles at University of Louisiana at Monroe School of Nursing. Mrs. Potter has taught community health nursing, fundamentals, LPN-RN, online courses, psychiatric nursing clinical and maternal-child health. Presently, Mrs. Potter is an Assistant Professor teaching Fundamentals of Nursing, Trends and Issues, and LPN-RN transitions courses.

She received her BSN from Grambling State University in 1995 and achieved her MSN with Distinction in Nursing Education from Alcorn State University in May 2005. Currently, she is entering the third year of the Ph.D. in Nursing program at Hampton University.

Mrs. Potter has served ULM and the School of Nursing in several capacities such as member of Admissions and Academic Standards, Sigma Theta Tau, Convocation Committee-Chair, NAACP Faculty Advisor, Awards Committee, PR Committee, Nursing Star Gala Committee, and Emerging Scholarship Mentor. She has contributed to local and regional presentations, educational conferences, training initiatives, grants, and continuing educational conferences.

She has contributed to youth education and health by conducting community health fairs, presentations, and conferences relate to Teen Awareness Drugs and Alcohol, Teenage Pregnancy, Sexually Transmitted Diseases & HIV/AIDS. Mrs. Potter has disseminated her research through presentations on Teenage Mother’s Perceptions of Nurse Caring at local and regional conferences.

Mrs. Potter is active in her community by serving on a local advisory board for a technical training academy, nurse consultant for a local assistant living agency, as Member-at-Large and Executive Council for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, on church-based committees and elementary and junior high school PTOs. Mrs. Potter Chaired the first annual Community health fair for AKA, and Co-Chaired ULM School of Nursing’s health fair.

She is an active member of the following professional organizations: American Nurses Association (ANA); Sigma Theta Tau, International Nursing Honor Society, Lambda Mu Chapter-University of Louisiana at Monroe; Tau Eta Chapter at Alcorn State University-Charter Member; and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Omicron Iota Omega Chapter.

The Sister Anne Marie Twohig Professorship in Nursing endowment was established to encourage and reward excellence in teaching, learning and research at ULM.
