She obtained her B.S. in nursing from Northeast Louisiana University in 1986 and her M.S. in nursing education from Grambling State University in 2006. She has served as an assistant professor at the ULM School of Nursing since 2006. She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Lambda Mu Chapter. She actively participates in professional research projects, most currently in one titled "Interactive Colostomy Skills Teaching for Large Groups in a Baccalaureate Nursing Curriculum" and in another one involving the SimMan Patient Simulator, which incorporates cultural aspects into patient care so that students will have an interactive experience in a laboratory setting. She is involved in scholarly activity on several levels, including in the presentation of nursing career information and in the writing and conducting of laboratory setting simulations. She has served on grant committees for the Nurse Education, Practice, and Retention (NEPR) and for Project MAD (Making A Difference). On a departmental level, she participates in the Assessment and Evaluation Committee, the PR Committee and the Technology Committee. She has been a member of the Admission and Academics Committee. Her community service includes administering flu/pneumonia vaccines at St. Francis Hospital, working with the Boy Scout Explorer Post program, and assisting with the ULM Bone Marrow Drive, Project MAD and with patient care at the Special Needs Shelter for Hurricane Katrina evacuees. She actively participates in recruitment efforts. About the Endowment: The ULM Endowed Professorship in Nursing endowment was established to encourage and reward excellence in teaching, learning and research at ULM. |
