DR. PAUL WIEDEMEIER is the holder of the Clarke M. Williams, Jr. Professorship in Computer Sciences [Communicative Software Design].

Dr. Wiedemeier arrived at The University of Louisiana at Monroe in the fall semester of 2005. Prior to that time, from 1999 through 2005, he was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Columbia College of Missouri. He was also employed by the University of Missouri - Columbia from 1995 through 1998 as an Instructor of Computer Science. Dr. Wiedemeier holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Missouri - Columbia, a M.S. in Computer Science from Michigan Technological University, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Drake University.

Dr. Wiedemeier's primary research is focused on data communications and computer networking. His current research interest lies in the modification of Open Systems Interconnect transport, network, and data link layer protocols to improve data transmission performance while continuing to provide reliable data transmission. The data communication protocols he has designed specifically decrease the time required to transmit medical imagery over high latency and/or high delay network topologies, such as low earth orbit (LEO) and geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellites. He is presently evaluating the performance of his protocol designs when used to transmit medical imagery over high frequency (HF), very high frequency (VHF), and ultra high frequency (UHF) simplex packet radio networks.

While at ULM, Dr. Wiedemeier's research has been published in the following venues:

• the Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges

Dr. Wiedemeier is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges, the Amateur Radio Relay League, the Tucson Amateur Packet Radio Corporation, and the Louisiana Academy of Sciences. He also holds a Technicians Amateur Radio License (KE5LKY) issued by the United States Federal Communications Commission.

The Clarke M. Williams, Jr. Professorship in Computer Sciences [Communicative Software Design] endowment was established to encourage and reward excellence in teaching, learning and research at ULM.
