Welcome to ULM's Good News!

"WHERE ARE THEY NOW?"

Welcome to "Where Are They Now?"

People have made our university what it is today. Our undergraduate years were defined in part by our interaction with certain members of the ULM faculty and staff and/or fellow students.

We hope this addition to Good News will provide the opportunity for many of you to reconnect with those who impacted your time here.

If there is someone you often wonder "Where Are They Now", let us know. We'll feature several each month in Good News.

Thanks for your continuing support of ULM.

Beverly JarrellBeverly Jarrell "I arrived on campus at the beginning of the fall semester of 1966. 'NLSC' was a growing college remarkable for the friendly nature of students, faculty, and staff. There was a strong family atmosphere."

What all were you involved in and/or where did you work while at the University? "I was hired at the University in August of 1972.

My first impression was the sincerity of the administration in welcoming new faculty members. I was hired to develop the dental hygiene program and I was also a member of the ULM Women’s Club."

Favorite place on campus: "My favorite place on campus was the dental hygiene clinic. Here I could see students gaining experience and becoming true professional dental hygienists."

How Beverly's time here impacted her life: "My years at ULM have been a big part of my life. It has been fulfilling and gratifying to be a part of a program that educates health professionals who graduate and provide an important health service to the public."

Favorite memories: "The graduation of my son and one of my daughters from NLU and the many memorable graduation banquets of our dental hygiene students."

What is Beverly doing now? "I am still the Head of the Dental Hygiene Department at ULM. I lost my husband and best friend in 2005.

I enjoy my two daughters and one son and my six grandchildren. What a joy! I am on the Board of Grace Episcopal School and the Monroe Rotary Club. I enjoy fun with my family at our lake house on Lake St. John and my daughter and son-in-law’s lake home on Caney Lake."

Anything else you want to share? "Life is full of many blessings — always look on the bright side."

Michael Gray Michael Gray "I arrived on campus in the Fall of 1995.

I was excited about finally getting to college. I had several friends from high school that were there, but I also enjoyed meeting all the new people.

Rush was my first opportunity to meet a lot of new people and really get involved."

What all were you involved in and/or where did you work while at the university? “I was involved in the Student Government Association, Kappa Alpha Order, 31 Ambassadors, PREP Staff, Inter-fraternity Council (IFC), and the Greek Council. I also worked for The Pow-Wow."

Favorite place on campus: "I would have to say it is between the KA house and the SGA office. There were always people at both and always something to do. There was never a lack of things to do and mischief to get into."

How Michael's time here impacted his life: "The opportunities I had to be a leader in several different organizations has helped me in dealing with people in my day to day life. I use those experiences on a daily basis as I deal with different people everyday."

Favorite memory: "I had a lot of great times while in college and a lot of great memories but one that sticks out is hearing Charlie McDonald talk about when we let Jesse drive the golf cart.

Charlie Mac talks about looking out the window onto the quad with Ashley Earl and myself directing Jesse in the golf cart in the quad. What makes it so funny is Jesse is sight impaired. Charlie Mac said he could hear us yelling at people to get out of the way from his office."

What is Michael doing now? "I am still in Monroe working for Reynolds & Reynolds. I am selling management software to automotive dealers."
