Latest Assessment News
October 7, 2008 - Under the direction of Dr. Eric Pani, Associate Provost, the University is in the process of creating an institutional effectiveness committee structure for the University. This structure will include both University-level and division and unit–level groups focused on specific pieces of institutional effectiveness processes.
Already this semester, the Office of Assessment and Evaluation has facilitated the creation and training of divisional and college-based review committees which are undertaking the first cycle of unit evaluation and degree program assessment plan review; these groups will recommend plan approval by the dean or vice president or return the plan to the unit or department for suggested revisions.
At the end of this process, all unit evaluation and degree program assessment plans will have the explicit approval of the appropriate administrator. This process not only ensures that administrators are continually updated on assessment and evaluation progress in their college or division, it also brings more faculty and staff into assessment and evaluation processes which in turn builds on a culture of continual improvement on campus.
In the coming months, a General Education Assessment Committee will be formed and tasked with a number of duties including reviewing the University’s general education learning goals and reviewing course-level assessment plans. In other areas, the overall institutional effectiveness committee structure will include committees for evaluating progress made toward fulfilling the University strategic plan, Roadmap for the Future, for assessing the quality enhancement plan, Engage the Possibilities, and for analyzing the University’s institutional effectiveness measures as a whole.
As always, if you have questions, comments, or suggestions, or if you would like to learn how you can participate in one of these committees, please e-mail us at assessment @ulm.edu or call (318) 342-1029.
