Cooperative Education Program
Students majoring in Accounting are encouraged to gain valuable practical experience
as well as academic credit by participating in the cooperative education program.
- Students are assisted in securing employment related to accounting in communities
surrounding the university.
- Students earn no less than minimum wage.
- Students register for Business 4061 and earn three (3) academic credit hours for each
300 hours worked.
International Internships
International internships are available to qualified accounting majors each spring
in several locations of the Canadian offices of Ernst & Young, L.L.P., an international
certified public accounting firm.
Students are trained to complete U.S. tax returns for citizens living outside the
country. Ernst & Young reimburses all travel expenses, assists in making living arrangements,
and pays interns a monthly salary.
A student who wishes to apply for an Ernst & Young internship must:
- be an ULM accounting major,
- have completed six (6) credit hours of 3000 level (junior) accounting courses including
Intermediate Accounting and Individual Income Tax, and
- have an appropriate GPA.
A student selected for an internship position will:
- register for Business 4061 and receive three (3) to six (6) academic credit hours
for the internship experience,
- spend three to six months living in an international location,
- gain experience in a "Big Four" CPA firm, and
- will have the possibility of continued employment with Ernst & Young, L.L.P. after
graduation.
