The Insurance Society of The University of Louisiana at Monroe is a professional organization of insurance students. It is designed to foster the study of insurance in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activities, and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the insurance industry and students of insurance; and to further a high standard of ethics at universities and in the insurance industry.
Meetings are held monthly, hosting a variety of speakers from the insurance industry. Insurance industry professionals are invited to speak regarding their field of expertise in the business. The Spring projects include the Insurance Studies Resume Book, and the Insurance Golf Scramble, held in April at Chennault Golf Course.
Students in the society take numerous funded trips each year to industry events. For example in 2005-2006, students attended a Reinsurer tour and surplus lines tour both in Dallas, TX, a tour of the LA Department of Insurance in Baton Rouge and the Risk and Insurance Management Society Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii among other things.
