Study Abroad Destinations

CEHD study abroad programs range from 2-weeks to 16 weeks.  Let us know what destinations interest you.  Sign-up lists are being developed for destinations like Australia, China, Taiwan, and San Antonio, Texas.  Additional information on each destination will be available online soon.

    Study Aboard Practicum

a.      Requirements

                                                              i.      The study aboard practicum will be part of Professional Block for Elementary Ed and Professional Block II for Secondary Ed.  Teacher education candidates will sign up for their regular courses in Curriculum and Instruction. 

                                                             ii.      Elementary Ed teacher candidates can participate during the fall or spring semesters; Secondary Ed teacher candidates can only participate fall semester.

1.      First 5 weeks will be at ULM

2.      Second 6 weeks will be in Australia

3.      Last 5 weeks will be back at ULM

                                                           iii.      Teacher education candidates can take the practicum in the summer semester only if it’s done as a study aboard practicum. 

b.      Countries

                                                              i.      Australia:  This program will be conducted through the Austro Learn program (australearn.org) sponsored by Global Link.  (Starting summer 2010)

1.      The program will start, at the earliest, spring of 2010. 

2.      Teacher education candidates can either participate for 6 weeks or 16 weeks.  If they are taking the practicum in the summer, they have to sign up for 16 weeks. 

3.      Financial aid can be used to help students pay for the program, since it is a course requirement. 

 

    Cultural Diversity Program

a.      Requirements

                                                              i.      The program will occur during Reading Block II for Elementary Ed and during Professional Block I for Secondary Ed teacher education candidates.

b.      Countries or Cities

                                                              i.      China:  The College of Education and Human Development will form a partnership with Shanxi University in China for a two-week study tour. The College of Education at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater will collaborate the College of Education and Human Development at ULM to organize this study tour.  (Starting Spring 2010)

                                                             ii.      San Antonio, Texas: The College of Education and Human Development will form a partnership with the San Antonio School District for a one week study tour.  During this tour, teacher education candidates will be taken to San Antonio and paired with a teacher who will serve as a host.  Candidates will spend a week with the host at the school learning about the culture of the town and its people. (Starting Spring 2010)
