Monroe City Scholars Summer Institute immersed young scholars in
hands-on learning in college like setting. Through the partnership
between ULM and Monroe City School District with support from Monroe

The CEHD Diversity Forum brought together over 140 students and featured members of a
diverse panel representing the Muslim Student Association, the Wesley
Foundation, the Gay/Straight Alliance, the International Student
Organization and Delta Sigma Theta. The program began with a five minute
introduction by each speaker describing how his or her organization

ULM offers first online Marriage and Family Therapy Doctoral program The new Marriage and Family Therapy Doctorate of Philosophy
with a concentration in Creative Systemic Studies, a nonclinical track
of the MFT Program, aims to provide leadership for students seeking
innovative scholarship and multicultural expression.
This unique doctoral track is designed for the clinician, counselor,
coach, clergy, healer, educator, scholar, or artist who is proficient in
a practical discipline and who desires an intense study of the contexts
that advance the creative practices of the transformative arts. "I believe that ULM's online Ph.D. program in Marriage and Family
Therapy is unquestionably the most creative and exciting nonclinical
doctoral program being offered today,” Keeney said. “No other program is
as committed to systemic thinking, creative practice, and state of the
art innovation. I am thrilled to be a part of this important
contribution to advancing the profession."

ULM’s GOLD adds a new degree program M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction - English as a Second Language to online offerings Students pursuing this degree learn the necessary
skills to assist others who are transitioning into English speaking
school systems. Graduates of the program may find many available job
opportunities as the number of non-English speaking students continues
to expand. "The new online Master of Education in English as a Second Language
is really an exciting opportunity for teachers to be able to earn
certification in a highly specialized area while enhancing their
teaching and leadership skills," said Dr. Dorothy Schween, CEHD
department head for curriculum and Instruction. "A bonus of the program is that participants also
earn the Teacher Leader Endorsement as a component of the masters
degree. Because of the online format, students are able to continue
full-time employment while completing a degree that can open doors to

ULM’s GOLD adds psychology degree to online offerings Most of ULM’s psychology faculty and instructors have been teaching for
many years and students report high satisfaction with their psychology
classes, according to program officials. “Because of the popularity of ULM's psychology program we anticipate
students not only from the state but also across the nation to enroll in
this newly offered, fully online degree.” said Robyn Jordan,
coordinator of accelerated learning at ULM, adding, “especially since
students are able to maintain their position in the workforce and
provide for their families while continuing their education.”

ULM to offer online Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education Grades 1-5 ULM’s long-standing, nationally recognized and nationally accredited
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree is now being offered
on a fully online platform. This is the only degree of its kind being
offered fully online in the state and surrounding region. Graduates will

The DREAM projects have had a tremendous summer. Teachers from multiple parishes participated in the Mathematics
and Science Partnership (MSP) which
continues to be a highly successful
teacher professional development program. Plus, hundreds of
middle and high school students arrived at ULM to participant in one of
four week-long LA GEAR UP camps. In addition, our new projects received great reviews. Out Standing in the Field and Project CLASS offered middle teachers fresh ideas and new insight for classroom instruction. |
![]() Louisiana Early Education Program (LEEP)
- Dr. Sherlyn Powell with the assistance of Shalanda Stanely partnered
with Southeastern Louisiana University to offer teachers in the north
Louisiana region a professional development training course focusing on
special education at the preschool level. The ULM session ended July 2,
2010. The course included a magic show with children (photo of
magic show). |

Together they developed a program that is assisting teachers in utilizing local opportunities to better teach the state’s grade level expectations in science, and equips them with resources after they return to school. Carmel Hill fund announced it is pleased to included 20 additional
ULM/CEHD students to the
Intern Program with Monroe City Schools during
2010. This program has been a tremendous success and continues to
grow each year. ULM interns are placed in Monroe City Schools to
provide assistance to children by using Accelerated Reader,
Accelerated Math, as well as take on other duties. It is the goal
of Carmel Hill Fund to change the educational road traveled by all
children. |
