The University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) SAMHSA/ULM HELPS Suicide Prevention Program has an immediate opening for a Project Director. The ULM HELPS Suicide Prevention Program, funded by SAMHSA, is located within the Marriage and Family Therapy Program, Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling, College of Education and Human Development. The project will support a comprehensive and coordinated campus effort designed to educate ULM faculty, staff, incoming freshmen and their families, as well as the student body at large, about the risk and protective factors associated with suicide and suicide ideation to help(1) increase the identification of students at risk for suicide or with mental and behavioral problems that may increase the risk of suicide, (2) appropriately respond to students at risk, (3) promote help seeking behaviors and recommend appropriate referral sources, and ultimately (4) prevent death by suicide as well as suicide attempts by ULM students. The Project Director is a full-time position funded for a 12 month period. Appointment will be made for one year and renewed for the second and/or third years only upon satisfactory performance and continued funding from SAMHSA. Responsibilities include: Plan, develop, promote, and deliver on-line and face-to-face suicide-prevention educational workshops and trainings to faculty, staff, students, and their families, consistent with best practices. This will entail identifying and convening campus and community groups and program stakeholders to identify applicable gender, sexual orientation, and cultural issues. Assist with creation of program materials and program evaluation. Provide consultation to faculty, staff, and interns, as needed, regarding students at risk for suicide or behavioral and/or mental health issues. Participate in staff meetings and case conferences and consultations as necessary, and coordinating all ULM HELPS events and activities. Reports to the Principals Investigators, provides administrative support to the Principal Investigators, such as handling some purchasing needs/arranging and reimbursement of travel/conferences, and handling required SAMHSA reporting. Other as required by the Principal Investigators.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Master’s degree in mental health counseling or closely related field; licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or other mental health professional. Experience in suicide prevention and intervention, identification and treatment of depression and substance abuse, and community outreach/education. Experience in a similar university setting with diverse student populations. Skills in campus consultation, collaboration, and program design. The position will require proven ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and mental health providers. Ideal candidates will also be clinical supervisors or supervisor candidates (i.e., LPC-S, LMFT-S or AAMFT Approved Supervisor) and have the ability to supervise interns and staff in prevention delivery and/or treatment.
Special Conditions: Must be willing to attend an annual 3-day Campus Suicide Prevention Technical Assistance Meeting.

SALARY
$36,000 - $42,000. Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

TEACH Delta Region Grant

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Professional Development Coordinator will direct and facilitate the induction, mentoring, leadership and other professional development activities of TEACH Delta Region participants and teacher interns. The Coordinator will be required to travel to partner institutions in the region, provide in-service training, and assist the partner university with the development of a sustained induction and mentoring program. The Coordinator reports directly to the Associate Dean.
Provide Professional Development to alternative certification participants by:
1. Plan and implement three-Week Summer Institute Training in June. This includes classroom management, teaching techniques, and actual field experience in the summer school classrooms.
2. Provide orientation for Alternative Certification Interns.
3. Develop the Handbook for Alternative Certification Interns, updating it and maintaining it each year.
4. Plan and facilitate monthly professional development seminars for interns.
5. Supervise and provide training for TEACH Delta Region Mentors and University Supervisors.
6. Participate in the design and implementation of assessment for interns.
7. Coordinate activities with the undergraduate Teacher Candidate program.
8. Publish a monthly newsletter to interns and non-interns (online).
9. Attend conferences concerning Alternative Certification.
10. Research new trends and best practices in teacher education to incorporate into the program.
11. Receive and reply to all inquiries about the program.
12. Participate in the interviewing and screening of program applicants.
13. Mentor and advise interns as needed (including visits to the schools as needed).
14. Participate in NCATE process and represent TEACH Delta Region during NCATE visits.
15. Work closely with Jackson State University’s TEACH Delta Region program. (This includes visits and collaboration concerning professional development for both programs.)

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
1) Knowledge of or experience with the state adopted induction model, Louisiana FIRST and LaTAAP.
2) Master’s Degree in education.
3) Supervisor of Instruction Certification and/or experience in K-12 supervision.
4) Evidence of exceptional knowledge of PK-12 education and assessment.
5) Strong interpersonal/communication skills (listening, writing, speaking); the ability to work effectively with a diverse population. Must have the ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The position of Abstractor/Research Associate is in the Northeast/Central/Northwest Louisiana Regional Tumor Registry. This position is responsible for screening and abstracting all newly diagnosed cancer cases in hospitals, physician’s offices, pathology laboratories and other health care facilities in northeast, central, and northwest Louisiana. Other responsibilities include the editing of abstracts submitted to the Regional Office by tumor registrars in hospitals with an American College of Surgeons approved cancer registry programs, quality control in case ascertainment as well as abstracting and coding accuracy, and active follow-up on all cases diagnosed after January 1, 2000.

The Abstractor/Research Associate must:
1. Be able to travel to various hospitals and physician’s offices throughout the state as assigned by the Director, and be able to work flexible hours to complete this work.
2. Be able to work independently in field hospitals and physician offices.
3. Be able to communicate effectively and professionally with personnel from all aspects of health care to resolve inconsistencies in cancer cases and to schedule the necessary visits to their facilities.
4. Be willing to attend meetings of the Louisiana Cancer Registrar’s Association twice a year at various locations throughout the state and to attend at least one national meeting during the year at various locations throughout the United States. Must also attend workshops that occur throughout the year as mandated by the Louisiana Tumor Registry.
5. Be knowledgeable of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and disease processes. Be willing to learn the requirements of a SEER registry and do the required work and study to qualify for the Certified Tumor Registrar exam.
6. Be willing to learn the computer skills necessary to perform the specialized tasks of the tumor registry.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
A bachelor’s degree in health information management, nursing or other health related field preferred or equivalent experience.
