ULM's TRIO intent on taking young men from high school to college

ULM's School of Construction Management to receive $97,000 Thursday

The University of Louisiana Monroe's School of Construction Management will accept a check for $97,000 from the Louisiana Licensing Board for Construction Management at a press conference Thursday. The event will be in the Media Room on the sixth floor of the ULM Library.

Brian Hecht to present recital, master class Thursday

Brian Hecht of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will present a bass trombone recital at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2 in Brown Auditorium. Dr. Richard Seiler, Professor of Music, will accompany Hecht on piano. Hecht will present a master class with the low brass studio at 11 a.m. in Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. S.E. Shires Custom Brass Instruments and The Band House from West Monroe will be exhibited in Biedenharn room 209 throughout the day.

ULM Ski Team wins 28th National Championship

The University of Louisiana Monroe Water Ski Team traveled to Bennett's Water Ski and Wakeboard School in Zachary, La., to compete in the 38th national championship of the National Collegiate Water Ski Association. The Warhawks tallied 12,165 points in winning their second consecutive and 28th overall national team title since the inception of the tournament in 1979.

Forum on 'Higher Education: The Future of Louisiana' set for Nov. 2

The University of Louisiana Monroe Faculty and Staff senates will host a forum, "Higher Education: The Future of Louisiana," on Thursday, Nov. 2, which is Higher Education Day in Louisiana.   The forum is at 2 p.m. in Sandel Hall, room 238.   Guests scheduled to discuss the challenges and strengths of higher education in the state -- with an emphasis on ULM -- are President Nick J. Bruno, Sen. Francis Thompson (D-Delhi), Rep. Katrina Jackson (D-Monroe), Courtney Hornsby, president of the West Monroe West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce, Ash Aulds of CenturyLink, Joshua Stockley, Faculty Senate President, Katherine Dawson, Staff Senate President and SGA President Bryce Bordelon.

It's official: ULM Doppler weather radar scanning the skies

At a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Oct. 25, University of Louisiana Monroe officials announced that the $3 million polarimetric Doppler weather radar is fully operational and actively scanning the skies of northeastern Louisiana and the surrounding area. The event was at the ULM Doppler radar site on U.S. 80. In 2012, ULM was awarded a $3 million grant through the Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOSHEP) to acquire a Doppler weather radar. In 2015, Enterprise Electronics Corporation was awarded the winning bid to manufacture and construct ULM's Doppler weather radar.

ULM Pharm.D. alumnus creates scholarship with $60,000 contribution

Monday, the same college held a check presentation to recognize an alumnus' $60,000 contribution toward a superior graduate scholarship that will support Doctor of Pharmacy students. The contribution was made by Dr. Salvador "Sal" Scaccia who received his Pharm.D. from ULM in 2002, which was the first Doctor of Pharmacy graduating class at ULM. Scaccia said the scholarship is very important to him as a way to give back to his alma mater for the gratitude and the successes he has made in his pharmacy career.

ULM Wind Ensemble presents concert Thursday

The ULM Wind Ensemble will present its first concert of the semester at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, in Brown Auditorium. The performance is free and the public is invited. The Wind Ensemble is the premier instrumental performing group of the University of Louisiana Monroe School of Visual and Performing Arts and is comprised of music majors and student musicians from other degree programs at ULM. Conductors of the Wind Ensemble are Derle R. Long and Steven Pederson. Guest conductors for this performance are Kenna Veronee and Sean O'Pry.

ULM's Browse on the Bayou Nov. 4 for high school juniors, seniors and transfers

On Saturday, Nov. 4, beginning at 7:30 a.m., the University of Louisiana Monroe will host its annual Browse on the Bayou, a specially designed campus visit day for high school juniors and seniors and transfer students. This campus preview day is a great opportunity for potential students to meet with faculty, staff and other students as they tour campus and learn about various academic opportunities, student organizations and scholarships at ULM.

District High School Marching Festival at Malone Stadium Tuesday, Oct. 24

Humes takes clarinet on the road with concerts in D.C., NYC

Dr. Scot Humes, Associate Professor of Clarinet in the School of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Louisiana Monroe, will perform in Washington, D.C., and New York City in early November. These are the premier performances by Humes with Steinway Artist pianist Tania Tachkova. They are both from New York City.

During the 2017 Summer Sessions, University of Louisiana Monroe Professor of Art, Dr. Joni Noble, once again offered two art/photography courses in Europe through ULM's consortium partner The University of West Florida in Pensacola. The Catalyst Program is available to any university student, and provides six hours of university transfer credit to participants. The study in London, Paris, Berlin and Prague coincides with ULM's first summer session, making it a fit for ULM students wishing a study abroad experience.

ULM and partners help secure $20K grant for West Monroe public art

Thanks to a $20,000 Creative Placemaking grant through the Delta Regional Authority, West Monroe can launch a new public art project. On Wednesday, the DRA, in partnership with leading national arts and government organizations, announced it will invest $309,000 in the arts and culture in the Delta. West Monroe received one of only 16 grants.

ULM responds to offensive social media incident

Wednesday it was brought to the attention of University of Louisiana Monroe administration that an offensive social media exchange on private accounts had been made public. The comments were in violation of the ULM Code of Student Conduct and were reportedly made by members of a campus fraternity.
