The National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society awarded University of Louisiana at Monroe graduate student and New Orleans native Julie Landry the prestigious Gabriela Mistral Award for her academic achievements in Spanish and her noteworthy leadership and initiative in her chapter.

Dr. Carl Kogut, professor of economics, and Dr. Paul Nelson, professor of economics and program chair of finance, insurance, and economics at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, recently received the Best Paper of Conference Award at the Academic and Business Research Institute Meeting in New Orleans.

Dr. Ava Pugh, professor in curriculum, instruction, and leadership in ULM's College of Education and Human Development, collaborated to secure a NASA grant for $22,500 grant to fund academic outreach programs at ULM as part of NASA's Summer of Innovation.

Today was a "great day" for ULM and the community, said College of Business Dean Dr. Ron Berry. University and community leaders celebrated the success of the Northeast Louisiana Business and Community Development Center Incubator, housed in Stubbs Hall at ULM.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Strategic Planning process is underway, and the community is encouraged to attend upcoming meetings and complete online surveys about the process. The 2013-2018 plan will incorporate input from all constituencies seeking to contribute to ULM's success, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members.

ULM President Dr. Nick J. Bruno announced the newly formed ULM Athletic Director Search Committee. The Athletic Director Search Committee is comprised of alumni, business leaders, ULM faculty, ULM staff, and community educators. In addition, several ex officio members will be named at a later date.

The Louisiana Systemic Initiatives Program (LaSIP), a division of the Louisiana Board of Regents, funded the ULM College of Education and Human Development's proposal for a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) teacher professional development program - Out Standing in a TEAM. The program was fully funded at $118,270.

On April 24, the dean and faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Louisiana at Monroe gathered with students in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall to honor outstanding scholarship in each department.

The Association of Southeastern Biologists recently recognized University of Louisiana at Monroe Professor of Biology and Graduate Coordinator Dr. Kim Marie Tolson, with its annual Meritorious Teaching Award.

Dr. Paul Sylvester, Pfizer Endowed Professor of Pharmacology and Director of Graduate Studies and Research, has been invited to speak at the upcoming Dietary Palm Oil in Human Nutrition Conference - NUTRICON 2013. In May, he will attend the conference in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

Jessica Lasiter, assistant professor of Medical Laboratory Science at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, received the Louisiana Society for Clinical Laboratory Science's Educator of the Year award at the recent LSCLS luncheon in Alexandria.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe School of Visual and Performing Arts and the ULM Dance Repertory Ensemble will present the annual Spring Fusion showcase at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 3, in Brown Auditorium.
