The inaugural Earth Day event held at Black Bayou this Saturday by the ULM student chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) met huge success. The event enjoyed a turnout of over 300 participants with nearly 150 ULM volunteer hours invested.

This past weekend, the two University of Louisiana at Monroe students nabbed their biggest win yet, capturing the FLW College National Fishing Championship on Beaver Lake, in Rogers, Ark.

After working for a local ophthalmologist for more than 14 years, Erin Weaver decided to venture out on her own and start a children's clothing boutique. Erin looked to the Louisiana Small Business Development Center housed at ULM to achieve her business dream.

For the third consecutive year, University of Louisiana at Monroe students of health studies participated in a service-learning project in Dr. Paula Griswold's social epidemiology class. Together, students planted a garden at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe.

Dr. Christine Berry, director of Insurance, Finance and Economics at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, recently presented at the National Hurricane Conference, held in New Orleans.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe's College of Education and Human Development will present the 11th Annual College Showcase and Academic Convocation at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 25, in the ULM Conference Center, located on the seventh floor of the ULM Library.

The Louisiana Opera (La'Opera) and the University of Louisiana at Monroe Department of Music will present the Giacomo Puccini classic La Bohème for two fully staged performances at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 17, and at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 19, in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.

University of Louisiana at Monroe's Dr. Kioh Kim, Assistant Professor at the College of Education and Human Development, recently translated Harry and Rosemary Wong's famous book "The First Days of School: How to Be an Effective Teacher" from English into Korean.

In 2012, Theodore Shaw earned in Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, an accomplishment that seemed almost impossible just six years prior. Now working for the nonprofit civil rights organization - the Southern Poverty Law Center in New Orleans - Shaw often revisits his past and the incident that brought him to a significant turning point in his life.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe's Office of Student Life and Leadership and Campus Activities Board presents yet another great year of Spring Fever events, April 22-28. This year's theme has as special and local significance that is sure to please all who participate. The University of Louisiana at Monroe recently hosted two fairs: the 2013 Region III Science and Engineer Fair on Tuesday, March 12, and the 2013 Region III Social Studies Fair on Thursday, March 14. Both fairs were held at ULM's Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Philanthropist Kitty DeGree devoted her life to bettering the community, and on April 12 the community recognized her unparalleled dedication. University of Louisiana at Monroe faculty, staff, students, and community officials celebrated the dedication of Kitty DeGree Hall, formerly known as the ULM Nursing Building.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Office of Career Connections will host its Education Majors Career Fair from 1-3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, on the second floor of the Student Union Building.
