CenturyLink Executive VP and Chief Operating Officer to visit ULM for Women's History Month March 26
Karen Puckett, executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Monroe-based Fortune 500 Company, CenturyLink, will speak at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, as part of the university's celebration of Women's History. Puckett's presentation will take place in the University Library Conference Center, located on the seventh floor of the ULM Library. This event is free and open to the public.
ULM alum, instructor and West Monroe dentist receives distinguished service award
University of Louisiana at Monroe alum Dr. L. King Scott, (B.S. '75) of West Monroe, received the Louisiana Dental Association's Distinguished Service Award. His award was recently presented during the 133rd House of Delegates of the LDA's annual session at the Shreveport Convention Center.
Alexander submits Congressional proclamation "honoring the life and memory of Dr. Horace Perry Jones"
U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, submitted a proclamation in the Congressional Record to honor the life and memory of Dr. Horace Perry Jones on March 21.
ULM Department of Music to present spring concert March 26
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Concert Choir, Orchestra, and Chamber Singers will present "A Tapestry of Song," at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, in ULM's Brown Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.
ULM releases results for largest-ever Warhawk Triathlon
The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Ninth Annual Warhawk Triathlon and Third Annual Youth Triathlon saw their largest contingent to date, with over 1,000 spectators and 321 participants testing their endurance on the ULM campus Satruday, Mar. 16.
ULM invites families to "Browse on the Bayou" March 23
As part of Super Warhawk Weekend, the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Office of Recruitment and Admissions invites the community to ULM's annual "Browse on the Bayou," from 7:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, March 23. Families with high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend this unique recruiting event.
ULM professor publishes 15th article in the New York Times
Louisiana has played an "important role" in American history, as reflected in a series of New York Times articles written by Dr. Terry L. Jones, professor of history at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. His latest piece, "The Codes of War," is the 15th installment he has contributed to the "Disunion" series published in the New York Times.
ULM celebrates the life of legendary history professor “H.P.”
Horace Perry Jones, Ph.D., was named after the famous Roman Poet Laureate Horace who coined the phrase, carpe diem or “seize the day.” H.P. did just that. During his 47 years as a history professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, he urged his students to do the same. Jones, 83, died in his home on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. The university community remembers his almost half-century of service as a history professor from Jan. 1, 1965, to his retirement May 19, 2012.
ULM streamlines scholarship application process; scholarship deadline March 31
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Foundation has partnered with the Office of Recruitment and Admissions to launch their online scholarship search and application software by AcademicWorks. http://www.ulm.edu/universityrelations/news/mar13/scholarships.htmlThis new program was launched March 18, with the opening of ULM’s foundation application process. The application period for foundation scholarships closes March 31.
President Bruno participates in ULM's Big Switch March 20
At 8 a.m., Wednesday, March 20, ULM President Nick J. Bruno will switch places with ULM student Julian D. Cain and attend his elementary statistics class in Hannah Hall room 205, while Cain will act as president.

Professor Emeritus and ULM graduate collaborate on article in major paleontological volume
A newly published volume by the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, "Vertebrate Coprolites," contains an article written by Dr. Gary L. Stringer (left), professor emeritus of geology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and Lorin King (M.S. '02), a geologist at Western Nebraska Community College.
ULM's popular Wine Over Water scheduled for April 4
The University of Louisiana at Monroe's Alumni Association will again host its award-winning Wine Over Water event from 7-10 p.m., on Thursday, April 4, on ULM's bridge overlooking beautiful Bayou DeSiard. The eighth annual Wine Over Water is an excellent way to support ULM, raise funds for local scholarships and enjoy a memorable evening.
ULM grad student researches oysters with Army Corps of Engineers Environmental Laboratory
LM’s Barry Marcel, a toxicology graduate student from Houma, has been working with the Army Corps of Engineers Environmental Laboratory in Vicksburg, Miss., testing the effects of various sediment concentrations on oysters in the James River.
ULM Alum Mary Browder to visit ULM March 19 for Women's History Month
Mary Singler Browder (B.S. '82), will visit the University of Louisiana at Monroe at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 19, as part of Women's History Month. Browder, a ULM alum and former trauma nurse, will speak about her life, her career, and her company. The event is free and open to the public.
ULM voice students show vibrato at annual conference
Several University of Louisiana at Monroe students won awards at the Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) spring conference recently held at ULM March 9. The singers performed for a panel of judges comprised of vocal teachers from throughout the state.

ULM to host fairs March 12 and March 14
The University of Louisiana at Monroe will host two upcoming fairs: the 2013 Region III Science and Engineer Fair on Tuesday, March 12, and the 2013 Region III Social Studies Fair on Thursday, March 14. Both fairs will be held at ULM’s Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

ULM professor to again offer study abroad opportunity in Europe
University of Louisiana at Monroe Associate Professor of Art Dr. Joni Noble will once again offer ULM students two art/photography courses in Europe through the University of Southern Mississippi - ULM's consortium partner. Applications are now open for both programs.
