Toxicology Doctoral Student Wins Burdock Award from Food Safety Section of National Society of Toxicology

Suresh Nagumalli, doctoral candidate for the Pharmacy Ph.D, Toxicology Track, was awarded the prestigious Burdock travel award by the Food Science Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) at the 2017 meeting in Baltimore.

17th ULM Student Research Symposium Tuesday

The 17th annual ULM Student Research Symposium is Tuesday.  Many activities are scheduled throughout the day. Students, faculty, staff and interested members of the public are invited to attend.   • 8 a.m.:  All research posters will be available for viewing in the 7th Floor Library, University Conference Center. • 9 a.m.: The School of Humanities will hold student oral presentations in the 1st Floor Library, Room 106.  • 11:30 a.m.: The School of Behavior and Social Sciences will hold oral presentations in the 6th Floor Library, Media Room. • 2 p.m.: The School of Pharmacy will hold oral presentations in the 6th Floor Library, Media Room. • 4 p.m.: Dr. Bruno will present medals to the school winners.  Refreshments will be served afterwards.   The event is under the direction of Dr. Paul D. Wiedemeir, ULM Student Research Symposium Taskforce Chairman. Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the University of Louisiana Monroe will host four events to raise public awareness and provide education on preventing sexual violence The events are presented by the WellSpring and several campus groups, including ULM Counseling Center, Femhawks, Title IX Task Force and Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. Items for care packages for victims and survivors of sexual assault will be collected throughout the month. For lists of items needed, visit the Office of Recruitment, Sandel Hall 104 or Title IX Coordinator Office, Library 612. The events are scheduled as following: Monday: Sexual Assault Awareness Seminar at 5:30 p.m. in Nursing Auditorium. Tuesday: Visit the Quad with the Title IX Task Force, the Wellspring, and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event starts at 4 p.m. in the Quad with registration beginning at 3:30 p.m. April 26: Denim Day - Wear jeans to show solidarity with victims and survivors of sexual assault. CAES students bring home first place wins in poster contest

Two ULM graduate students from the School of Science in the College of Arts, Education, and Sciences placed first in the poster competition at the annual meeting of the Louisiana Academy of Sciences in March.

A book signing by John L. Carr, Ph.D., for his new book, "Amphibians & Reptiles of Louisiana," is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in room 250 of Hanna Hall at the University of Louisiana Monroe. The book was recently published by the LSU Press. Carr has held the Kitty DeGree Endowed Professorship in Biology since 2011 and is curator of the Division of Zoology of the ULM Museum of Natural History.

ULM is open today with classes and operations continuing as scheduled. Faculty and staff who cannot safely attend today due to Sunday's storms are asked to contact their supervisors. Students unable to attend are asked to email their instructors.

Strong storms are still forecasted for the area overnight. Students are advised to monitor National Weather Service announcements and be prepared to take shelter in an interior room or hallway on the lowest level of the building. Classes for Monday morning will remain as scheduled. If there are any changes in the class schedule they will be posted via the warhawk alert system before 6:00 am tomorrow morning. Be safe Warhawks!
