HOW TO APPLY FOR AID

To apply for financial aid you will need to complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Our school takes the information you provide on your FAFSA to award aid. Regardless of income, every eligible applicant can receive some type of financial assistance.

Three Steps to applying for aid:

1. Apply for a PIN (personal identification number) www.pin.ed.gov

The PIN allows you "sign" your FAFSA electronically which creates a totally paperless application process

Safeguard you PIN just like your Social Security Number! Keep your PIN with all of your other important documents. You will use your PIN again. Do not give your PIN to anyone!

If you are providing parental information on the FAFSA, one of your parents will also need to apply for a PIN.

Your PIN will also allow you to:

  • Make corrections to your FAFSA
  • Access your Student Aid Report (SAR) and make corrections to it
  • Access your federal student records online, including your student loan information
  • Sign your promissory note for federal Stafford loans

2. File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

www.fafsa.ed.gov

The deadline to file your FAFSA is August 1, 2008. You must have all necessary documents filed in the Financial Aid Office by this date to ensure that your bill is paid by the fee deadline and that you receive your refund on time.

By filing your FAFSA form as early as possible, you give us plenty of time to take care of any problems that may arise.

The FAFSA is your application for grants, loans, and work-study

Important FAFSA links:

  • FAFSA 08-09 help - this site takes each question and explains where to look for the answers, and why they are asking the question
  • Worksheets - print the 2008-09 worksheets to complete most of the work before you begin to work on the computer

There is no charge for submitting or receiving help with your FAFSA. It is FREE!

3. Review your Student Aid Report (SAR)

Your SAR is the summary of your FAFSA

You should receive an email in about two weeks from the Department of Education that will direct you as to how you can retrieve your SAR. If you did not provide an email address on your FAFSA, your SAR will be mailed to the address provided on your FAFSA

Once you receive your SAR, you should review it for errors. Your aid is processed based on this information.

Your complete, correct SAR will contain your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), the number used to determine your federal student aid eligibility

To check the status of your SAR visit: SAR status

It is your responsibility to ensure that we receive your FAFSA.
