GENERAL STUDIES PROGRAM
A FLEXIBLE DEGREE
Both a two year Associate of General Studies Degree and a four-year Bachelor of General Studies Degree are available through the College of Liberal Arts. These extremely popular curricula offer a unique challenge for continued self-improvement and for career enhancement. Among undergraduates who find General Studies an attractive major field are those who wish to pursue a non-traditional degree program for personal enrichment and satisfaction. Additionally, General Studies often appeals to students who wish to design their own course of study, change their majors late in their academic careers, return to the university with new career insights, or attend the university on an irregular basis.
TRANSFER CREDITS
At least 25% of the semester credit hours required for the degree must be from ULM. One-third of the credit hours required in the major concentration must be included in the 25% degree requirement.
ASSOCIATE OF GENERAL STUDIES
An Associate of General Studies Degree requires a minimum of 66 semester hours, 45 of which must be earned in core courses. This degree is also available through distance learning via television and LSU correspondence.
BACHELOR OF GENERAL STUDIES
A minimum of 125 semester hours is required for a Bachelor of General Studies Degree. For students who carefully choose their courses, the bachelor's degree allows good preparation for careers in government, business, and many other fields. It also enables students to prepare for entrance into seminary, law school, medical school, dental school, veterinary medicine school, and various graduate programs.
ADMINISTRATION
While pursuing the General Studies curricula, students are enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences, whose Dean administers the program through academic advisers housed in the Administration Building 1-45, and available on a year-round basis to assist students.
General Studies degree requirements are listed in the ULM Undergraduate Catalog.
