Areas of Interest Environmental politics, Middle East, International Organizations, urban environmental management, Non-governmental organizations, Global ecological issues. Academic Bio In 2004, Dr. Sutherlin was nominated for the John H. Stibbs Award for Faculty at Tulane University. Also, that same year, he was nominated for the Volvo for Life Award for his work in developing water technologies. He was a finalist for the position of Secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality for the State of Louisiana under Governor Blanco. Before coming to ULM, Dr. Sutherlin taught for more than 7 years at Tulane University. At ULM, Dr. Sutherlin was elected to the Faculty Senate, developed the shared governance procedures and received the 2007 Award for Excellence for the entire university. Dr. Sutherlin is a frequent speaker at international conferences and lectures on a variety of environmental and natural resource management issues. He is the author of two environmental management books, producer and director of 24 urban environmental documentary films and political consultant for numerous local, state and federal government agencies. He has appeared on Fox, CBS, ABC and NBC, as well as a commentator for BBC and Bloomberg. For more than a year, he has been a regular political commentator for KNOE-540 AM. He has held hundreds of public hearings and spoke at conferences in the US, Europe and South America. He has worked with a number of European and South American governments and private companies in the area of environmental compliance, permitting, technology assessment and regulatory management. Dr. Sutherlin is also a patented inventor of environmental technologies and processes. |
