MINUTES FOR CAC MEETING
August 30, 2006

The College Administrative Council (CAC) met in the Nursing Conference room from 3:00-4:30. Dr. Corder called the meeting to order.

In Attendance: Dr. Jan Corder, Juliet Burgess, Dr. Jessica Dolecheck, Emmy Doughty, Dr. Judy Fellows, Dr. Florencetta Gibson, Jay Hicks, Beverly Jarrell, Peggy Meredith, Marge Michel, Belinda Morgan, Dr. Paxton Oliver, and Debbie Wisenor.

1. Pulse.

CLSC
- Debbie Wisenor has been named the Interim Department Head.
- Debbie Wisenor was also named Outstanding Faculty by Alpha Lambda Delta
Freshman Honor Society. She was presented with her award after the 3rd quarter of the ULM vs. Alcorn State football game on Thursday, August 31, 2006.
- Interviews for clinical placement begin in September.

CODI
- 87 participants were at the Continuing Education Professional Development Seminar held
August 23, 2006. Joe Eral, vice president of TheraSimplicity, based in New Richmond, Wis. presented students and professionals with ways to access online therapy materials for clients.
- The CODI faculty and students will have free access to the online therapy materials as long as they are at ULM.

DHYG
- 24 seniors and 28 juniors are progressing well in their clinic.
- Accreditation is in October.
- Received a grant for a digital X-ray machine.

HS
- The proposal was submitted to the Board staff for approval and positive feedback was given by the staff on the new curriculum.
- There will be Pre-OT, Pre-PT, and Healthcare Management/Marketing tracks.
- If approved by the Board of Regents the university will begin advertising to hire faculty.
- Will continue to try to get the Pre-Med and Pre-Dent tracks reworked and approved in the future.

NURS
- The 48 students accepted are progressing well.
- Nursing Honor Code will be implemented this semester.
- The first exit exam was given August 30, 2006.

OTA
- The 30 students accepted into the professional program are doing well.

RADT
- Jay Hicks was 1 of 20 radiologic educators chosen to attend the American Society of Radiologic Technology Leadership Academy in Albuquerque, NM that was held in July.
- Jay Hicks was also accepted into the doctoral program at Texas Woman's University.
- Policy and Procedures changing for seniors.

SHS
- Held 2 Open Houses during the Week of Welcome.
- Keeping up with student life groups and residential life groups on campus.
- Attending FRYS classes to inform freshmen of services available.

2. Who's Who

- Dr. Oliver requested that 18 nominees be submitted to him by October 5 for submission to Dr. Brumfield by October 11, 2006.
- Follow-ups will be emailed to each department.

3. Schedules - Data Base
- Dr. Corder asked that the data based schedules be ready by October 1, 2006 for discussion.
- These data bases give an historical look from 2000-2006 Spring, Summer I, Summer II, & Fall semesters.
- The purpose is for cleaning up course offerings and schedule planning.

4. Professional Development Seminar.

- The seminar went very well.
- Certificate of Participation will be given to the students who attended.
- Dr. Gibson asked for suggestions for changes in the program.
Some suggestions made were:
More student involvement.
Questions at the mixer to be more discipline specific.
Handouts to accompany any HIPAA video presentation.

5. HIPAA Video.

- Emmy Doughty suggested putting HIPAA information on a website blackboard course and adding a test for each department.
- HIPAA books are available at Prentice Hall for order by students and faculty.

6. Blood Borne Pathogen Procedure.

- Emmy Doughty distributed several forms for review and for discussion at the next meeting
- Policy on TB patients is that no student will be assigned a known TB patient in clinicals.

7. Flu Vaccine

- Marge Michel suggested a competition among departments to encourage students to the flu shots.
- The cost is $15.00 per vaccine on campus.

8. College Policies & Procedures.

- Dr. Corder needs responses from the departments by Friday, September 8, 2006.
- Dr. Oliver will send attachment to CAC members to review after Dr. Corder compiles suggestions received.

9. Service Learning Grant opportunity from ULS system office.

- This grant is to be used for hurricane relief efforts.
- Dr. Corder has forms if interested in applying for this grant.

10. Senator David Vitter

- Has requested participation in the Woman and Family Health Forum to be held September 20, 2006 at the Alumni Center in Monroe.
- Information was distributed to Dr. Gibson for implementation.

11. Drug Testing Policy

- Has gone to the cabinet.
- Minor changes must be made before approval by the cabinet. Dr. Oliver is following-up.

12. Correction of Previous Minutes

- Dr. Fellows reported that CODI accepted 12 regular graduate and 3 accelerated graduate students for admission instead of the reported 25 in the August 1, 2006 minutes.
