Department Announcements

Curriculum Announcement—HSPP Majors Only (11/10/2008) BIOL 403A will no longer be taught by the BIOL department due to challenges with current Biology faculty numbers.  BIOL 403A (1cr) was the course we were using to substitute for BIOL 426 (1cr). Dr. Krishnamurthy and Dr. Dolecheck have identified an alternative – BIOL 313 (1cr).  Dr. Krishnamurthy will waive the pre-requisite of BIOL 312 to allow Health Studies students to substitute BIOL 313 for BIOL 403A. Note: BIOL 313 is only offered in the spring semester and students must pass BIOL 311 with a “C” or better to take BIOL 313.

Students Graduating in Spring 2009 (11/05/2008) Students must complete their graduation applications currently and submit to the Dr. Dolecheck, Sugar 156A by November 24, 2008. Graduation applications can be picked up in Dean’s office, Sugar 151 or Health Studies Department, Sugar 156.

GERO 410 (11/05/2008) Currently, GERO 410 is not being offered in spring 2009. For those students that need to take this course in the spring 2009, we will accept a substitution using GERO 430 or 436. Both of these courses are online.

Health Fair @ ULM SUB on November 13 (11/05/2008) HSSA is participating in the Health Fair at the SUB on 11/13 from 10:00 to 2:00. Students interested in participating, please see Lindsay Crowell for more details.

Pre-OT Students Only (11/05/2008) Those pre-OT students who have not yet taken MATH116 are now required to take PSYC439 per discussions with the new department head of the OT Department at LSUHSC in Shreveport on 10/31/08. For pre-OT students who have already taken MATH116 and have guided electives left to take, we are strongly recommending to these students to take PSYC439 before application.

Online Courses at ULM (11/05/2008) There are many online courses offered at ULM; however, some of the online course offerings are strictly designated for CALL students only. Under the Course Search in Arrow, if the course indicates “Online Student Only” then this course is for CALL students only and traditional students will not be able to register for that course.

Change of Majors (11/05/2008) Students who change their major to Health Studies must be advised on our new degree program requirements and have a transcript review completed immediately. Keep in mind: not all courses previously taken will be accepted for our degree program; therefore, degree completion is typically extended beyond what the student originally planned for because students have to “catch up” to our new degree requirements.
