Submission Guidelines


The Helicon accepts creative writing and art. Submissions should be emailed to ulmhelicon@yahoo.com in Rich Text Format. Short stories and essays should be less than 7,000 words. No more than three poems should be submitted in one month. We publish short or one-act plays on occasion. A chapter of a novel should be able to stand alone. The magazine is for current ULM students only and contains 80 percent undergraduate work.


The Helicon Online accepts creative writing and art. Submissions should be emailed to ulmhelicon@yahoo.com in Rich Text Format. Short stories and essays should be less than 7,000 words. No more than three poems should be submitted in one month. We publish short or one-act plays on occasion. A chapter of a novel should be able to stand alone. The online version may contain works by ULM students as well as students from other universities.


The Helicon: Form 2 accepts creative writing, creative journalism, and art. It is a tabloid that accompanies the student newspaper, The Hawkeye, once a semester. Submissions should be emailed to ulmhelicon@yahoo.com in Rich Text Format. Short stories and essays should be less than 7,000 words. No more than three poems should be submitted in one month. We publish short or one-act plays on occasion. A chapter of a novel should be able to stand alone. Form 2 is for current ULM students, faculty and staff, alumni, and the ULM community of northeastern Louisiana.

Suggestion: Try to refrain from sending "grandmother" and "pet dog" poetry.
