L Club Welcome

Welcome to a "special" edition of our online newsletter. As you might recall, our publication schedule was adjusted last summer to mirror that of the ULM Alumni Association:

(1) An e-newsletter will be sent in August and December and

(2) Immediately after the Hall of Fame weekend, our L-Club Newsletter will be mailed to all our life and current dues paying members.

With so much going on, we wanted to send you this special edition to keep you caught up!

Your L Club

As promised, the option to pay your L Club dues online is now active. Located at the top of this e-newsletter, is the “Join the L Club” link. We have identified about 2,800 L Clubbers and of that number, over 1,200 are receiving this newsletter, yet only 234 have paid thier dues.

Our budget for this year is based upon 500 people paying their dues. We have the potential to do lots for our L Club alumni and for our university. . . please take a moment to join online or to mail your check! Many thanks!

What You Can Do For YOUR L Club

2008 ULM Sports Hall of Fame Class Announced

The L Club in conjunction with the ULM Alumni Association and the ULM Athletic Foundation announced its 2008 ULM Sports Hall of Fame induction class.

The class of Claude Brumfield (football), John David Crow (football coach & administration), Glenn Flemming (football), Jimmy Walker (men's basketball) and Don Warren (track & field) will all be inducted during Hall of Fame Weekend April 4-5 in Monroe, La.

"This is an exciting time for the L Club and its sponsorship of the Sports Hall of Fame," L Club president Bob Cooper said. "Each of these inductees represents former letter award winners and the university in a way we can all take pride. They are now formally recognized as a permanent part of the most distinguished letter award winners from ULM and we look forward to honoring their selection."

The weekend includes a golf tournament at Pine Hills on Friday at 1:00 and the induction ceremony at noon on Saturday in the SUB Ballroom.

He won the Gulf States Conference title in the long jump as a freshman and competed in the World University Games in Turin, Italy. ULM Football Signs Highest Ranked Class in School History

In front of a standing room only audience at the University Conference Center, ULM football head coach Charlie Weatherbie announced the 2008 Warhawk signing class.

ULM signed 14 student-athletes today to go along with seven mid-year junior college transfers that arrived on campus in January to complete the class of 21 student-athletes. “I believe this is the best recruiting class that I have been around since I have been coaching,” Weatherbie said. “I am excited because this is no doubt the best recruiting class that we have had since I have been at ULM.

“We have a lot of size, speed and athleticism coming in with this class and that is enough to make anyone excited. I feel like we filled some immediate needs that we had on both lines and at the running back position.” “Anytime you finish the season by winning five of your last six games including victories over Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette it makes for a great carry over into recruiting, spring football and the fall.”

The top rated player in the class is running back Luther Ambrose from St. James High School in St. James, La. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound back is ranked as the 17th best running back in the nation by ESPN. ULM signed seven players from Louisiana, six from Texas, five from Mississippi and one each from Alabama, Kansas and Florida.

In addition to Ambrose, the Warhawks signed six other players on Wednesday that were nationally ranked; Michael Autwell, Carl Elie, Jonathan Gill, Julian Griffin, Daniel Hanson, Keavon Milton and Casey Narcisse. Both of the Warhawks quarterback recruits, Jonathan Morvant and Cody Wells, led their team to their respective state championship game this past season.

The class included a Sun Belt-best seven three-star players according to Scout.com and the Warhawks recruits have the highest average star rating in the conference according to Scout.com. The majority of the focus was spent on the offensive and defensive lines with five recruits coming at both spots.

Fans will have an opportunity to see the seven junior college signees and the returning Warhawks when spring practice begins on February 28. Practices will run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday until the Spring Game on March 15 (the 15h will also see the ULM Alumni Association host it’s annual La’ Louisianne crawfish boil held prior to the spring football game – for more information, contact the ULM Alumni Center at 342-5420 / 866-927-4295).
