Louisiana Residency

Louisiana Residency in accordance
to Board of Regents rules:

kayak on the bayouA resident student for tuition purposes is defined as one who has abandoned all prior domiciles and has been domiciled in the State of Louisiana continuously for at least one full year (365 days) immediately preceding the first day of classes of the term for which resident classification is sought. Residence status, for fee purposes only, cannot be acquired by an applicant or student while residing in Louisiana for the primary purpose of attending school.

A student can acquire Louisiana residency for tuition purposes in multiple ways. The following will provide some examples:

• Residing with a parent who qualifies as a Louisiana resident

• Student – enrolled in 6 or fewer hours per semester must be employed in Louisiana for twelve consecutive months averaging 35 or more hours a week

• Military – Home of Record is Louisiana

• Spouse – who qualifies as a Louisiana resident

• Residing with a legal guardian – granted through the courts prior to the student’s 18th birthday
