The ULM History department has specialists who focus on fields not generally duplicated by historians at other Louisiana universities. Dr. Bontty is the state’s only public university Egyptologist; Dr. Anderson is Louisiana’s only African-American historian focusing on the study of hoodoo and voodoo; Dr. Carpenter is the only Native American specialist working in northern Louisiana; Dr. Blackburn is one of only a few experts on Polish history in the South and offers one of the few Holocaust courses in Louisiana; Dr. Jones is a leading expert in the field of Civil War history; Dr. Brown has published work on the U.S. Army’s occupation of Austria following World War II.
