Recognizing the unique needs of our diverse student population and community, the mission of the OTA Program at ULM is to educate students to function as competent entry-level occupational therapy assistants in a dynamic society by: preparing students to engage in occupation driven practice that is consistent with the philosophy, principles, attitudes and behaviors of the profession; empowering students with high principles of ethical conduct and an understanding of professional standards and responsibilities; enabling students to utilize and contribute to research for the promotion and advancement of the profession; instilling students with an understanding of the necessity of lifelong learning for the occupational therapy professional.

After taking the national certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy to become a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), you will be able to work in hospitals, healthcare clinics, school systems, and non-profit healthcare organizations.

ULM OTA contributes to the presence of the university in the community through service as a partner to programs and the community by providing student manpower and expertise to meet the needs of the area through associations with the Early Head Start and Developmental programs, ARCO, Harmony House, Mary Goss Nursing Home, rural parish developmental screenings, the CP Association, Disability Awareness and adolescent risk prevention programs

Neurodevelopmental treatment; Pediatric and Early Intervention treatment; Orthopedic treatment of shoulder conditions; OT with the elderly, Neurological Treatment - CVA, TBI ; Rehab; Pediatrics in the School System; Pediatrics with an emphasis in outpatient treatment, NICU and Early Intervention; Functional Capacity Evaluation; Treatment of orthopedic shoulder conditions.

The ULM OTA program recently received the highest level of accreditation possible by the American Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)
