The Choral Program at ULM includes several ensembles to meet the needs of a wide variety of experience, including the Concert Choir, University Chorale, Chamber Singers, Women's Chorus, Men's Chorus, Opera Workshop, Opera Chorus, Opus, and the Interdenominational ensemble. Any ULM student may participate in these groups. Membership in two of the choirs is by audition, the Concert Choir and the Chamber Singers. The ULM Symphony Orchestra is currently made up of approximately 50 musicians, and has experienced a great deal of growth in recent years. Additional orchestral ensembles include the Chamber Orchestra, String Orchestra, String Quartets, and Orchestral Winds. Membership is open to all University students by audition; the current membership includes students representing virtually every academic program within the University. The ULM Opera presents a scene program in the fall, a children’s opera in February, and a fully staged production with orchestra in April. A musical will also be performed in the Fall. On-stage training includes audition protocol and dramatic coaching, movement for singer-actors, characterization, improvisational techniques, and stagecraft. In addition, there will be Alexander Technique master classes with Phyllis Richmond, and a March composer in residence session with Stephen Paulus, formerly the Composer in Residence with the St. Louis Opera. |

The percussion studio, under the direction of Larry Anderson and Mel Mobley, provides several ensemble opportunities, including percussion ensemble, steel drum ensemble, and African drum ensemble.
