ULM faculty and students featured at UL System Academic Summit

The University of Louisiana System Academic Summit was recently held at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Faculty, staff, and students from the UL System’s nine universities participated in the third annual event, which highlights service-learning projects. University of Louisiana at Monroe students and faculty presented during the summit.

Each project was chosen through a competitive review process and ULM presented four unique projects during the summit.

Overall, 44 presentations were selected to showcase community impact projects in diverse areas such as social work, sociology, music, literacy, marketing, radiology, disaster preparedness, teacher education, bio-diversity, and filmmaking.

Dr. Kimberly S. Whorton, assistant professor of dental hygiene, presented “Transferring Teaching Strategies from the Classroom to Service-Learning Projects.”

Tiffany Jackson, professional development coordinator of the TEACH program, collaborated with Montrell Marshall, a graduate student from Baton Rouge, and Mark Parrish of First Baptist Church in West Monroe, to present “TEACH Project Students ‘Broaden Horizons’ Through STEM Investigations.”

Jackson also presented “Girls Scouts ‘Power Up’ with ULM’s TEACH Project Partnership,” with Katherine Stagg of the Louisiana Girl Scouts and Linda Trimble of Ouachita Parish Schools.

Dr. Pamela Higgins Saulsberry, professor of social work, presented “Life Events, Transitions, and Turning Points,” with senior social work majors Eric Hendrix and Tara Williamson.

Each participant received a medal commemorating their achievement and the students will display their medals during commencement exercises.
