Published July 22, 2015

The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s TEACH Project will host an Effective Professional Practice Conference Aug. 3-4 on the ULM campus. Regular registration runs through July 27, and late registration runs through July 29.

Admission is $150 and includes the two-day workshop registration, coaching manual, and lunch each day. Sessions run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the ULM Student Union Building Ballroom (SUB).

The conference will focus on “Increasing Student Achievement through Classroom Management and Instructional Coaching.”

Michelle Harris will serve as the conference’s principal speaker. An additional session with Chelonnda Seroyer is also available.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to bring such a relevant and timely professional development opportunity to the educators in Ouachita Parish and the surrounding areas. It provides an opportunity to support our partners and stakeholders as well as make an investment in the children across the states,” said Tiffany Jackson, project director and coordinator of the ULM TEACH Project.

Harris, a Corwin consultant, will teach participants to use the coaching cycle and partnership approach to encourage school-wide reform and improve school culture.

Seroyer, master teacher and internationally known speaker, will present from 8 a.m. to noon, on Monday, Aug. 3, in Stubbs Hall, Room 100. Admission for this session only is $30.

Seroyer will share practical insights and strategies to help teachers prepare a classroom management plan that will create a culture of high expectations and increase student engagement and achievement.

“Research on effective professional development shows that adult learners prefer learning experiences that are relevant to their current work and can be implemented immediately. We have designed the workshops for this conference to do just that,” Jackson said.
