Hecht recital 5:30 p.m. Thursday; master class 11 a.m.

Brian Hecht of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will present a bass trombone recital at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2 in Brown Auditorium.Dr. Richard Seiler, Professor of Music in the School of Visual and Performing Arts, will accompany Hecht on piano.Hecht will present a master class with the low brass studio at 11 a.m. in Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.

S.E. Shires Custom Brass Instruments and The Band House from West Monroe will be exhibited in Biedenharn room 209 throughout the day.

Hecht, a native of Dallas, joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in September 2013. Prior to that, Hecht held the bass trombone position with the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C.

He has performed with other major ensembles throughout his career including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra (under the baton of Simon Rattle), San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic, Washington National Opera, Lyric Opera of Baltimore, and the Kennedy Center Ballet.

He received his Master of Music from Northwestern University and earned his Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at Austin.

Hecht has been on faculty at the Southeast Trombone Symposium in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He plays S. E. Shires Bass Trombones exclusively.
