New Dean Appointed for the College of Education and Human Development

President of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Dr. James Cofer, has appointed Dr. Luke Thomas as the new Dean in the College of Education and Human Development. Dr. Thomas' appointment was announced at an 11:00 meeting with faculty and staff of the College of Education and Human Development and is effective immediately. The appointment is subject to the approval of the Louisiana Board of Supervisors and will be addressed at their March meeting.

Dr. Cofer said, "This appointment was based in part on the recommendation of Provost Richters. The College of Education and Human Development has been through two searches in order to find the current dean. The College of Education had requested Dr. Thomas on two separate occasions as the person to take over the leadership of the college. Dr. Richters and I were able to convince him to take over the leadership. We are pleased with the appointment. We had discussions with the previous College of Education leadership before the appointment was made. We are confident that Dr. Thomas will serve the college well."

As dean Thomas will oversee all activities in the College of Education and Human Development. Dr. Thomas previously held the position of Head of the Department of Kinesiology (formerly the Department of Health and Human Performance) at ULM for the past 5 years. Thomas has been a member of the ULM faculty since 1984. He received his Doctor of Philosophy from Louisiana State University in Health and Human Performance.

Dr. Wilson Campbell will take over as the Interim Head of the Department of Kinesiology.
