ULM School of Nursing Offers Accelerated Option

The School of Nursing now offers an Accelerated Option for students who have a previous bachelor's degree in any field. This option will allow students to earn the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in a shorter period of time. Students who have a bachelor's degree will have many of the courses other than nursing courses completed and will be able to apply them to the nursing degree.

This option is for those persons who wish to change careers. They must complete certain specific prerequisite courses such as anatomy and physiology, microbiology, chemistry, and statistics, among others. Once these prerequisites are completed, the nursing courses are arranged in such a way that the student can complete the nursing sequence in 15 calendar months. Normally this sequence of courses takes 5 academic semesters or 24 to 30 calendar months.

Students who choose the accelerated option will earn the same degree, have all the same content and be will prepared to sit for the licensing examination. The first group of students will be admitted to this option in January 2005.
