ULM Professor Presents Paper at Oxford University

Dr. Jo Anne Welch, professor of curriculum and instruction at ULM, presented her paper entitled "The Case of Drug Use in School: The ADHD Dilemma" at the Oxford Round Table at Oxford University in England the week of March 21st 26th.

The Oxford Round Table is an event for which the university sends letters of invitation to hundreds of academics in several countries. This year, 44 people in all fields of education, from college professors, and Ph.D.'s, to secondary education teachers, from all over Europe and America were selected to come to England to present their research.

"This was the best lesson in diversity I have ever received," said Welch. "Being able to interact with, and learn from educational leaders from other cultures allowed us all to compare and share what we know from our individual experiences."

At the round table, each individual has twenty minutes devoted to their presentation, and twenty minutes of question and answer from those in attendance. Welch's paper and presentation dealt with the rising problem of how teachers should properly address the issue of ADHD, and what their responsibility is as far as giving or recommending the use of drugs when dealing with the problem.

Each presenter's paper will be reviewed with the chance of being chosen for international publication. Oxford will announce their choices this June.
