PREP sessions filling up fast with incoming students

The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s PREP season will continue with an already fully requested session June 20-21. Another session will follow Tuesday and Wednesday, June 27-28.

PREP is a two-day program designed to help new students make a smooth transition to college life.  All incoming freshmen are required to attend one of the four PREP sessions, during which they select fall classes, scope out the campus, and meet fellow classmates. The participants also meet with faculty and administrators, take necessary placement exams, change majors if needed, and make course selections. The students will leave PREP with a completed schedule of classes for the fall semester.

Testing services are available during PREP. Placement exams are offered for students who require placement in developmental courses. Foreign languages placement exams and CLEP exams are offered for students who wish to earn credit through credit-by-examination programs.

Placement exams and CLEP exams will be administered at 4 p.m. Monday afternoon prior to Day 1 of PREP. Scheduled exam(s) will be confirmed by the ULM Testing Center via mail or telephone. If an individual has not heard from the Testing Center by the Thursday prior to a scheduled PREP session, please call the ULM Testing Center at 318-342-5336 to confirm.

Individuals may register for exams when registering for PREP. For more information, go to: www.ulm.edu/testingcenter.

There is a non-refundable registration fee of $65 (mail-in registration form) or $60 (online registration form) for PREP. The fee covers orientation materials, meals and entertainment while in the program. For more information and to register online, please visit the PREP website: www.ulm.edu/prep.

Individuals may also contact the PREP Hotline at 318-342-7315 or contact by email at PREP@ulm.edu.

For parents, the Parent Orientation Program (POP) coincides with the PREP program and allows parents the opportunity to discover what ULM has to offer for students. Parents will see firsthand where students will live, eat, and socialize. Parents will also be able to speak with faculty, staff and President James Cofer.

The fee for POP is $30 for a single guest or two guests for $50. Children under 12 cost $15. The fee for POP covers the cost of orientation materials and meals while at POP. All fees are nonrefundable. On-campus housing for parents is not available due to limited residence hall availability.

For more information, please visit the POP website: www.ulm.edu/pop.
