ULM student pharmacists offer free services

The ULM APhA-ASP (American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists) chapter will freely offer their services to the public during the remainder of October, American Pharmacy Month.

Student pharmacists will be present Saturday, Oct. 21 at the ULM Chili Cook-off from 1 p.m. until the cook-off’s end between 4-5 p.m. as part of Heartburn Awareness Project. Both students and pharmacist will be in the Grove next to the cook-off tent giving free information, counseling, and even free Prilosec OTC samples to those who qualify.

The students will provide free information to the public about heartburn prevention and treatment, including lifestyle changes, foods to avoid and over-the-counter treatments.

Heartburn is experienced by millions of people every day. Everyone is encouraged to learn how to avoid or treat heartburn, as well as know when it could be more serious and necessitate a doctor’s visit.

On Friday, Oct. 27, the ULM APhA-ASP will conduct Operation Diabetes/Operation Immunization at the Council on Aging Health Information Fair. Student pharmacists will provide free information about immunizations such as the influenza and pneumococcal vaccines, as well as referrals to facilities where vaccines are available.

The ULM chapter will attend the APhA-ASP Region 6 Midyear Regional Meeting Oct. 27-29 in Dallas, Texas to discuss policy and professional development.
