ULM Preparatory Academy of Music receives grant from Target for production of “Moby Pincher’s Musical Adventure” (May 8 – 9)

The ULM Preparatory Academy of Music announced a partnership with Target in recognition of its efforts in promoting music to area elementary schools.

The grant it received will assist in the production of “Moby Pincher’s Musical Adventure,” a reportedly amusing and engaging storybook by local author Dee Scallan, concerning a crawfish that stumbles upon the beauty and enchantment of music. The 25-minute musical is designed for pre-k through third grade classes.

Moby Pincher will be presented on May 8 (family performance) at 6:30 p.m. and May 9 (school performances) at 9 and 10:30 a.m. at Brown Auditorium. Admission is $3 for children and adults.

Marilynn Gibson, director of the Prep Academy, stated, “’Moby Pincher’s Musical Adventure’ was presented last year for the first time to ecstatic youngsters who were thoroughly entertained and enlightened by the actors and musicians of our academy. We are so delighted that Target has seen the worthiness of this project to educate our children about music and how it can effect their lives in a very positive manner.”

This grant is part of ongoing efforts by Target to strengthen families and communities throughout the country. Since opening its doors, Target (NYSE:TGT) has given five percent of its income to organizations that support education, the arts and safe families and communities. Today, that translates to $3 million every week.

Laysha Ward, vice president of community relations at Target, praised the Prep Academy. “At Target, we are making a real difference every day through our grant-making program. We’re proud to partner with the Prep Academy as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where our guests and team members live and work.”

More about the ULM Preparatory Academy of Music:

The Preparatory Academy of Music is an enrichment program specifically developed to provide the highest quality of musical training for young artists. It is a balanced performance-based program designed to educate the whole child.

The mission is to complement the established music education programs of the northeast Louisiana region through the coordination and cooperation of artists/teachers of the Monroe/West Monroe area. The program is centered on three foundations of musical training: performance, theory and chamber music. Through a balanced integration of these three foundations and with the involvement of parent-student-teacher interaction, this curriculum encourages a life-long appreciation for and support of music.

Currently, instruction is offered for strings, with emphasis on the Suzuki method, woodwinds, brass, percussion and piano. Music theory and an early childhood music class are also provided through the academy.
