ULM expands online degree offerings

The University of Louisiana at Monroe continues to expand its online learning initiatives, giving non-traditional students accessibility to a broader range of online college degrees in an accelerated format.

ULM’s Gateway to OnLine Degrees program, a clearinghouse for all of ULM’s online degrees, recently added two bachelor’s degrees to its growing roster of online degree programs: a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing and the bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene.

“Most people know that if you have a degree, you will increase your earning potential and the likelihood for promotions,” said Robyn Jordan, coordinator of accelerated learning at ULM.

“Online degrees assist responsible adult learners who need the flexibility of earning degrees from the comfort of their own home.”

The marketing degree is for those interested in a career in advertising, brand management, industrial marketing, consumer relations, market research, professional selling, purchasing and retailing. The dental hygiene degree program is geared for those with an associate degree in dental hygiene who have passed the dental hygiene board exam, according to Jordan.

“The dental hygiene degree prepares students for advanced levels of employment opportunities in areas such as research and development, dental hygiene education, public health, and the corporate world,” said Jordan. “The program also prepares students for graduate study and equips graduates with skills appropriate for lifelong learning. “

Approximately 600,000 Louisiana adults have earned college credits towards degrees that they have not completed. ULM’s online initiatives are helping to address that issue, said ULM President James Cofer.

“I’m very pleased that ULM continues to adapt to the realities facing many 21st-century students, including non-traditional students anxious to earn a degree,” he said.

“These students are usually more mature, they have jobs and family commitments. They are prepared for anytime, anywhere, anyplace instruction, and we are prepared to deliver it.”

Jordan said other approved online degree offerings include the Master’s of Business Administration in Business Administration; the Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education; the PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy; and the Master’s of Education in Educational Technology Leadership.
