ULM alum to head new casino and hotel resort in Baton Rouge

A University of Louisiana at Monroe alumnus is the new vice president and general manager of a $357 million casino and hotel being built in Baton Rouge.

Michael "Mickey" Parenton (B.A. '90) will lead Pinnacle Entertainment's senior management team, with responsibility for all aspects of the start-up and ongoing operations of the planned casino entertainment property, expected to open in December 2011.

Parenton has more than 18 years of casino industry experience and has been serving as Pinnacle's vice president of special projects.

Another ULM Alum, David Blitch (B.S. '83), also serves on the senior management team. Blitch is the senior director of resort operations coordinating the facility's resort operations, including hotel, food and beverage services.

The Baton Rouge casino and hotel will be the fourth property operated by Pinnacle Entertainment in Louisiana. The company also owns and operates casinos in Missouri, Indiana and Nevada.
