ULM's Division of Music receives Outstanding Contributor award

The Louisiana District I Band Directors Association has awarded the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Division of Music its annual Outstanding Contributor award.

The award will be presented at the High School Honor Band Concert this Saturday, Jan. 29, in Brown Auditorium on the ULM campus, and also was presented at the District Junior High Honor Band concert, held last Saturday, Jan. 22.

Each year, the Louisiana District I Band Directors Association gives an Outstanding Contributor award to a person, business or institution instrumental in the Association's events and causes

For over 25 years, ULM has hosted hundreds of Honor Bands throughout the region for rehearsals and public concerts.

This year, Danny Mejia, District I vice president and chairman of honor bands, led approximately 200 junior high school band students and 150 high school band students who came to the university to hone their musical skills.

Mejia is a 1999 music education graduate of ULM and band director at Sterlington High School.
