Annual ULM Art Sale returns Dec. 5-9 in time for holiday season

A much-anticipated event takes place in the Bry Art Gallery beginning Monday Dec. 5 with the Annual ULM Faculty, Alumni and Student Art Sale.

The sale runs through Friday, Dec. 9. The sale hours will be 8 a.m.-6 p.m. daily.

There is always a variety of artwork for sale that includes painting, sculpture, pottery, photographs, jewelry, and many other handcrafted treasures. The artwork changes daily and is worth visiting more than once. This is a great place to find unique Christmas, wedding or birthday gifts in all price ranges.

Some of the artists that have had artwork for sale in previous years include Gary Ratcliff, Wayne Horton, Betty Crouch, Ann Johnston Currie, Shelia King Floyd, Steven Spitzer, Joni Noble, Ron Alexander, Charles Womack, and Bob Ward.

An added attraction of the Art Sale will be a special reception to celebrate the arrival of the Divsion of Art's new Gile gas-fired kiln.

Gile Kilns are considered top-of-the-line and represent the highest standard in the U.S. ceramics industry.

This impressive unit, which arrived at ULM last spring, has been undergoing a long "shake-down cruise" to configure its computerized controls and firing times for best results, and is now fully operational and ready to show its stuff.

Many recent examples of pottery and ceramic sculpture created in the new kiln will be available for the public to view and purchase at the Art Sale.

A reception will be held in the gallery area at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7.  Ratcliff, a master potter and head of the Division of Art, will give a talk on the capabilities of the new kiln.

Everyone is invited to enjoy refreshments and see the beautiful objects produced by this new device.

Funding for exhibitions presented by the Division of Art is provided in part by the ULM Campus Activities Board, and supported by the ULM Division of Art Faculty.

Tax-exempt donations to support future exhibitions can be made to the ULM Foundation's Visual and Performing Arts fund.

For more information contact Ratcliff at 318-342-1376 or ratcliff@ulm.edu or Dara Engler, assistant gallery director, at 318-342-1382 or engler@ulm.edu.
