VAPA to hold "Chicago" auditions Nov. 20

The University of Louisiana at Monroe School of Visual and Performing Arts will hold auditions for the spring production of Tony award-winning musical "Chicago" Sunday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. in Brown Auditorium.

Those auditioning should prepare 16 to 32 bars from a musical theater selection from the show (or in the style of the show) and be dressed to dance. An accompanist will be provided. A prepared dance routine is not required. Taped music or acapella performances are not allowed.

Lobby doors will open at 12:30 p.m. on the day of the audition for sign in. The singing auditions will begin promptly at 1 p.m. Those participating should bring sheet music. Dance auditions will follow. Afterward, some individuals will be asked to read from the show's script.

Rehearsals for ULM’s "Chicago" are scheduled for the beginning of the Spring 2012 semester.

The show’s orchestra will be under the baton of Dr. Jason Rinehart, with musical direction by Julian Jones.

Performances are scheduled for March 29-31, 2012, and will be directed and choreographed by ULM Director of Dance Robin Stephens.
