ULM alumni golf team places high

Members of the University of Louisiana at Monroe Caddo/Bossier Alumni golf team recently competed in the Second Annual Acura College Alumni Team Championship at the famous Pinehurst golf course in North Carolina.

Of the 63 teams that participated, the ULM alumni team finished tied for sixth place.

The team was comprised of Tracy Maxwell (friend of alumni), Tim Wilhite (former ULM golf team member '87-'88), Will Mulhearn (B.A. '95), and Matt Sawrie (B.A. '98).

"We were so proud to represent ULM at Pinehurst," said Sawrie.

"We are so thankful for the team gear provided by Eric Whitten of WarhawkTeamShop.com, and Tommy Walpole at the Alumni Center."

The tournament is a unique event where alumni and friends from 12 participating athletic conferences compete for school pride, bragging rights and the Acura College Alumni Team Championship Cup for their team and university.

The tournament was held on the No. 4 and newly renovated No. 2 course, where the 2014 U.S. Open Championship will be played.

"We are excited about the fantastic finish of our Caddo/Bossier team," said Tommy Walpole, associate director of Alumni Relations.

"Our alumni in the northwest area of Louisiana have really stepped up, and we're now looking forward to their Fourth Annual Scholarship Golf Scramble event May 11, 2012, at Stonebridge Golf Course."
