ULM Fishing Team finishes season #1 in the nation

The anglers from the University of Louisiana at Monroe Fishing Team finished the 2012-2013 season as number one in the nation in Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) School of the Year Standings.

The team finished with 907 total points for the season.

"We are very proud of this team," said ULM President Dr. Nick J. Bruno.

"They continue to achieve success on the national level bringing recognition to the team, our university, city, and region."

In the 2011-2012 season, the team finished in second place in the yearly standings, making the current finish the pinnacle of the team's growing success.

Recent ULM graduate and outgoing team president Paul Clark (B.S. '13) said, "After finishing second last year, we came out at the beginning of this season with our hearts set on nothing short of winning."

According to the ACA, the team will be featured in Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing television series, as well as an episode of Americana Outdoors.

The team will also receive Cabela's gift cards and prizes.

"How can you be any prouder of these boys?" said Ralph Swillie, ULM team adviser.

"They worked hard all season long, and they deserve this attention."

About the Association of Collegiate Anglers:

The Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) was formed to create a national, unified voice for the country's collegiate anglers through an affiliation with the BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship and related programs.

The organization has been made possible by a joint effort among The Bass Federation Inc. (TBF), Careco Multimedia, and a host of supporting companies.

With nearly 30,000 members across 47 states, TBF is the nation's oldest and largest organized national fishing group.

The ACA is a "federation" under the TBF umbrella, having its own board of directors, by-laws, and benefits. Included in the benefits are club insurance coverage, access to conservation and equipment grants and more.

Any school recognized fishing club with at least six members can join the ACA.
