Campus Parking
ULM has made a number of policy changes designed to address existing safety concerns
as well as the temporary closure of several buildings:
Safety concerns:
- Much of the existing diagonal parking areas along both University Avenue and Northeast
Avenue have been changed to parallel parking;
- Some diagonal parking along University Avenue and Northeast Avenue has been eliminated.
- The traffic circle on Mitchell Avenue in front of Brown Hall has been eliminated.
These changes were made to:
- Improve the sight lines for pedestrians crossing University Avenue and Northeast Avenue,
and Mitchell Avenue;
- Improve the sight lines for motorists exiting parking lots, and eliminate the safety
concerns related to backing out of the diagonal parking spot.
Movement of faculty and staff offices:
- A number of parking areas have been repainted due to the movement of faculty and staff
offices necessitated by the closing of Walker Hall, Chemistry and Natural Science
Building (CNSB), the first floor of Hanna Hall, and the upcoming renovation of Sandel
Hall.
- The entire area from the Library to DeSiard Street has been repainted for faculty
and staff.
- Two areas in the middle of campus have been repainted for students: the area in front
of the Student Union Building (SUB) and the horseshoe shaped area between Walker Hall,
Hanna Hall, and Sugar Hall;
- The area on Northeast Avenue adjacent to the Library will be student/visitor only:
this will provide potential student access to Recruiting/Admissions as well as student/visitor
access to the Library.
Fines
- The basic parking ticket fine has been raised to $50; this structure matches several
other UL-System universities.
