Education and the Drug Information Center
Education is an essential component of all Drug Information Center activities. Through education, enhanced Drug Information skills can effect positive changes in understanding, practice, and ultimately patient outcome and well-being. The Drug Information Center participates in the following educational functions:
Dissemination of knowledge through response to drug information inquiries.
Didactic instruction for pharmacy students in both traditional classroom settings and in active learning based practice laboratories.
Experiential teaching through a Specialty Clinical Rotation in Drug Information for fourth year pharmacy students.
Formal and informal instruction to students in other disciplines.
Provide instruction and updates to health care personnel through various venues including both live and recorded didactic instruction, periodic e-zines and professional newsletters such as the Disease State Management updates for Louisiana Medicaid Providers.
Community outreach education through Health Fairs, presentation to disease state interest groups, and Louisiana Medicaid Patient updates.
The Drug Information Center is no longer able to answer inquiries from the lay public.
All information relative to inquiries to the Drug Information Center is considered confidential and privileged and meets or exceeds relevant state and federal requirements.
