Dr. W. Wayne Brumfield

Wayne BrumfieldDr. W. Wayne Brumfield is the vice president for student affairs at The University of Louisiana at Monroe, a position he's held since July 2002.

After working in the private sector for several years, Brumfield began in admissions, recruitment and freshmen orientation at Southeastern Louisiana University from 1989 to 1995. He then became the director of admissions at Southern University and served that institution for four years. After gaining experience in the area of admissions, he accepted the registrar's position at Louisiana State University at Eunice in 1999.

Brumfield is affiliated with many higher education organizations and regularly presents papers at conferences throughout the United States.

He graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a bachelor's degree. He received his master's degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. While continuing to work full-time, he received his Ph.D. from the College of Education, Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge.

The vice president for student affairs provides that division with forward-thinking, engaged leadership promoting student success through student-centered programming opportunities designed to enhance retention.

The vice president also carries out the university mission; develops the relevant budget strategic goals and objectives; provides professional development opportunities; provides leadership to enhance student life experiences, campus safety and security matters; provides guidance on pertinent legal issues, assists with recruitment and retention issues on campus; provides effective, positive leaders for all student organizations; works cooperatively with students, faculty, staff and the University Cabinet; and more.
