Michael Echols, Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communication

Michael EcholsMichael Echols became associate vice president of marketing and communication at the University of Louisiana at Monroe in April 2008. He serves on the ULM Cabinet as a member of the senior leadership team.

A Monroe native, he has also worked as the chief operating officer for a regional wealth management firm, at ULM as an adjunct professor of marketing, and as a business consultant regarding computers and small businesses in particular.

Echols received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He is a registered financial consultant, a certified divorce financial analyst, and holds several other professional licenses.

He participates in numerous civic organizations, including the Louisiana State Arts Council, the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation, the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council, the Monroe Symphony Orchestra Endowment, the Garden District Neighborhood Alliance, the Monroe Kiwanis Club, the Center for Children and Families of Northeast Louisiana, and more. He is a Leadership Louisiana Graduate and the commissioner of the Heritage Preservation Commission for the City of Monroe.

Echols has extensive experience in leading organizations and advising in the areas of marketing, systemization, planning, and organizational management.

The associate vice president of marketing and communication is responsible for creating, implementing and measuring a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program that will enhance the University’s image and position within the marketplace and the general public.
