Richard Hood, Executive Assistant to the President
Dr. Richard Hood serves as executive assistant to the president at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
His tenure at ULM began in 1990, when he served as coordinator of Continuing Pharmacy Education in the College of Pharmacy. Prior to that, he served in staff development with the State Department of Education. Throughout his career, he has taught in Arkansas and Louisiana from grade five through the university level.
Hood received a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech University, a master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and an Ed.D. from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
He has presented at numerous state and national conferences, including the National School Public Relations Association, the International Reading Association, and the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
During the 1980s, he was coordinator of a school public relations program called “Your Public Schools…Expect the Best,” which was implemented in many parishes throughout northeastern Louisiana. He also served as president of the Louisiana School Public Relations Association.
For the past 20 years, he has performed a one-man show in which he portrays Mark Twain for audiences throughout Louisiana. He is a Chet Atkins-style guitarist, a former church choir director and has worked in the financial securities business.
The executive assistant manages the operations and support staff in the President’s Office, responds to requests for assistance from university constituents, researches policy issues, assists with the president’s correspondence, reviews and signs official university contracts and documents for the president, aids in the preparation and administration of the President’s Office budget, serves as the president’s liaison with university constituents, and assists in other responsibilities as assigned by the president.
