Dean of Health Sciences Announced
Dr. F. Lamar Pritchard
has been named Dean of the
College
of
Health Sciences
and the
School
of
Pharmacy
. Dr. Pritchard, currently Medical Science Manager at Bristol-Myers
Squibb, is set to begin at
ULM
in August.
Dr. Pritchard is a fourth
generation pharmacist with broad experience including retail and hospital
pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry, and as a faculty member at the
University of Georgia College of Pharmacy.
As a member of the
Bristol-Meyers Squibb medical science team Dr. Pritchard developed the Key
Opinion Leaders and Speakers in
Virginia
,
North Carolina
and
South Carolina
. He was also responsible for the development and implementation of trials
and pre-launch activities for several new drugs, and made medical
presentations in the areas of cardiology, neurology, and endocrinology to
audiences of professionals in internal medicine and family practice
physicians.
Dr. Pritchard’s
appointment resulted from a national search conducted by a committee
combining
ULM
faculty, administrators, and health professionals. ULM Provost Stephen
Richters is pleased to have Dr. Pritchard on board, “We took our time
and found the perfect individual for this position. We know Lamar’s
professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry allows him to bring
a wealth of knowledge to us. Our students will benefit greatly from having
him as their dean.”
Chair of the search
committee, Dr. Kenneth Clow, who is also Dean of the
College
of
Business Administration
, said Dr. Pritchard struck him as a smart and caring individual. “We
were looking for someone who could relate to the students, yet could also
take on the duties as the top administrator for the
College
of
Health Sciences
. Lamar has a good head on his shoulders and I feel confident that we have
made the right decision.”
At
ULM
, Dr. Pritchard will lead a program that produces more health professions
graduates than any other institution of higher learning in
Louisiana
, with the exception of the medical schools, and enjoys a reputation as a
major health sciences teaching and research center.
The
College
of
Health Sciences
also provides specialty services for the entire state through the services
of the Louisiana Drug and
Poison
Information
Center
(handling over 80,000 calls per year), the Louisiana Institute of
Toxicology, and affiliation with the State Department of Health and
Hospitals’ Medicaid program. For the
Monroe
area, patient care clinics are available on-campus through the programs in
Communicative Disorders, Dental Hygiene and Occupational Therapy.

academic programs and curricula, expand our important research base, and
to ensure that our programs and graduates are providing the highest
possible level of health care to enhance and improve the lives of the
citizens of the great state of
Louisiana
. My family and I are also excited to be relocating to the
Monroe
area. Everyone that we have met has been very warm and friendly. It seems
to be the perfect community to raise a family."
Dr. Pritchard earned his
Ph. D. in Pharmacy at the
University
of
Georgia
and his B.Sc. in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia School of
Pharmacy in
Athens
,
Georgia
. He and his wife, Judy, have been married for 24 years. The Pritchards
have two children, Matt, 16, and Rebecca, 14.
Dr. Pritchard’s
appointment is pending approval from the University of Louisiana System
Board of Supervisors.
